Our Journey

Improving homes, residences and workplaces

From humble beginnings as a family business, to becoming one of the most successful and respected joinery firms in the South West, Sweet Joinery has maintained values of quality, expertise, and care.

Follow our journey over the past five decades…

It all began in 1974

That’s when Howard Sweet launched H Sweet and Sons, offering painting and decorating services to Bristol-based building contractors. During the 80s the company grew and added more services – including joinery – winning contracts with the likes of the Bristol Aeroplane Company (now Airbus) and Rolls Royce in Filton.

Enter the next generation

Howard’s grandson Dan along with his brother Lewis joined the company in the early 2000s as a carpentry apprentice. As the business entered the new millennium they had the chance to work on exciting projects like the installation of oak floor and joinery for harbourside restaurant Bordeaux Quay and the conversion of Bristol’s Paintworks complex.

Taking a leap forward

The specialist joinery workshop opened in the summer of 2010. Dan and his team were soon working on projects including the refurbishment of Cathays library in Cardiff and Cheltenham Art Gallery. Then in April 2016, with an eye to the future, the workshop team delivery of a CNC Router, increasing the manufacturing capacity and enabling high-quality cutting of more elaborate designs at a lower cost and improved delivery speed.

A new chapter begins

Dan founded Sweet Joinery in 2017, having already managed the workshop on behalf of our sister company Sweet Construct. Having spent over 20 years developing his skills, becoming a talented joiner as well as a highly effective project manager. He is not afraid to take on a challenge in a new environment, and as such has enabled Sweet Joinery to build an excellent reputation for bespoke projects among both domestic and commercial clients spanning the education, transport and retail sectors.

Sweet Joinery join forces with Woodhill Joinery

Sweet Joinery join forces with Woodhill Joinery in late 2019 further adding to the experience and skillset of the team.  In addition we made considerable investment in new machinery to include high capacity cross cut saw, traditional woodworking machines and a state of the art edge bander to improve our product offering.
